Ford Street is a small hamlet, about two miles south of Wellington in Somerset. It is considered to be the northern “Gateway to the Blackdown Hills” which stretch into Devon.
telephone box after conversionIn June 2012, to celebrate the diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the local residents inaugurated an information point and library, together with a map of the area by a local artist, in a former telephone kiosk converted by residents. If you are a visitor you are very welcome to borrow or donate books; we just ask that the facility is kept tidy and respected. The side road from Ford Street to Briscoe was closed to traffic and over one hundred people attended a street party and barbecue. Every year since then a party is held for all the residents and friends. July 2020: due to the pandemic we are not able to hold our annual “gathering” where over 100 people attend to enjoy a chat and good food, not forgetting an occasional glass of wine or beer. Keep in touch with us and we will put the 2021 dates here. In the meantime keep healthy!

The history of the village has been researched, and evidence of such as a grist mill, cider farm, school and smithy has been found.

It is with sadness that Katharine’s family announce that one of Ford Street’s longest “serving” residents passed away, peacefully at home at the age of 94.

Katharine, her husband, John, and four children moved to a new-build in Ford Street in 1964. They were participants in the winter whist drives which ran for many years, and loved to host the Young Farmers Carol Singers each Christmas, and, in more recent years, Katharine thoroughly enjoyed the Ford Street get-togethers, which seemed to be called for any and every occasion!

The funeral will be at 12:00 on Wednesday October 26th at Taunton Crematorium.
