Do you want to:
Help with Community Speedwatch? The traffic at present is still causing many concerns with excessive speed. The police are very supportive but if you could help with Community Speedwatch occasionally, perhaps a few times a year, it might help to get the message across, especially as we have fewer volunteers now. Drivers are not prosecuted as a result of our actions but the police may write to or visit them to make them aware. There are three approved sites, but we only use two of them… one by the phone box mainly for traffic coming south, up the hill, and by Middle Ford Farm for traffic going towards Wellington. The average number of vehicles travelling in one direction only is over 100 per hour, and the average speed of those registered is 40mph with top speeds in excess of 50mph. It has the highest recorded rate of offenders in Avon and Somerset Speedwatch areas. At present we only have five helpers and it is advisable to have three per session, so we cannot carry out as many monitoring sessions as we could previously. Full training will be given and insurance arranged. All equipment is provided by the police who will attend some sessions as commitments allow.
